Desktop Bookmarks

Filed Under (Tips and Tricks) by on April 5, 2010 and tagged

Do you have a favorite web page that you’d like to be able to access quickly, without having to scroll through your bookmarks list or access your online bookmarks?  It’s easy, just send it to your desktop!

First, use Safari to go to the web page.  Resize the window if needed, so you can see a little bit of your desktop. Click on the little blue ball or other picture (favicon) to the left of the web page address (URL) at the top of the window.  Hold down your mouse button and drag the favicon to your desktop.  Now, anytime you want to visit the web page all you have to do is double click it on your desktop!

FYI, you can drag the favicons to a folder. This means if you find a webpage you quickly want your students to look at, you can put it in your class folder in the grade level shares folder.

Sounds like a quick and easy way for teachers to get web sites out to kids! Like the idea of putting them in a folder in a shared space. :)

Great tip! You can also drag the short cut to the dock (next to the trash can) for quick access. My students love this little trick!

Thanks for this tip Ann. I use Firefox & tried dragging symbol next to address bar down to dock on my mac & it worked. Great for quick access. I haven’t tried the folders idea yet, but it sounds really useful.

Great tip. Thank you for sharing it. I’ve never tried dragging the favicon. I think this is something students and teachers would find useful.
