What better way to start off 2010 than with some resources for New Year’s! There are so many available online, but here are three I’ve looked at that you can really use!
New Year for Kids has a little bit of everything. You can find a variety of New Year’s writing paper for most elementary grades, puzzles to print are available, and arts and crafts ideas are plentiful. Be sure to skip past the ads at the top of the page!
New Year’s Fun Facts and Figures has some interesting information for older elementary students. They can learn about the history of resolutions, ancient New Year’s history, famous people with January 1st birthdays, Chinese New Year, how to say Happy New Year in over 20 languages, and the words to Auld Lang Syne.
New Year’s Resolution Time Capsule is a brief article and lesson idea written by a teacher, and posted on the Scholastic website. It includes a link to a .pdf document that students can use to write three types of resolutions.
Kick resolutions up a techie notch or two! One idea is for your students to use KidPix to create a poster illustrating one or more of their resolutions. Another idea is for students to use Kidspiration to organize their resolutions; an example of that is below. If you’d like me to work with your class on a techie resolution activity, please let me know!

Love the Kidspiration activity. I’m always looking for more ideas to use with that program so will be filing this one away for next year.
